Wednesday season 2 finally lands on Netflix this August — here’s what to expect

Get ready for more dark humor, gothic style, and supernatural mysteries. Nearly three years after it first cast a spell on Netflix viewers, Wednesday is back with its highly anticipated second season.

A split release for season 2

The new chapter of the Tim Burton–produced series will be released in two parts: the first arriving on August 6, followed by the second on September 3. This time, eight fresh episodes filmed in Ireland promise to deliver the same eerie charm and sharp wit that made season 1 a global hit.

Since its debut, Wednesday has become Netflix’s second most-watched series ever, with over 252 million views—trailing only behind Squid Game. The return of Jenna Ortega as the deadpan, braid-wearing Addams daughter is set to keep fans hooked.

What’s in store at Nevermore Academy

Season 2 once again takes viewers back to Nevermore Academy, where outcasts like werewolves, sirens, and psychics learn to coexist. Wednesday, still gifted with unsettling visions, will tackle another string of mysterious murders while reluctantly dealing with her rising popularity—something she despises.

Her complicated relationship with Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) also takes center stage, exploring the tension between mother and daughter in new, intriguing ways.

A star-studded new cast

The new season welcomes big names to the ensemble. Steve Buscemi, Joanna Lumley (Absolutely Fabulous), and Christopher Lloyd—who famously played Uncle Fester in the 1990s films—are joining the lineup.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is Lady Gaga, who became unintentionally linked to the show when her track Bloody Mary went viral on TikTok alongside Wednesday’s now-iconic dance scene. This season, she officially enters the Addams universe.

One notable absence is Percy Hynes White, dropped from the cast after facing allegations he denies.

Action, weapons, and character growth

At just 22, Jenna Ortega has already proven she can carry a major franchise. For season 2, she revealed she trained to wield new weapons—like axes—in addition to the sword skills she used previously. “I had to be precise. I didn’t want to hurt the actor across from me,” she explained during a virtual press conference.

Director Tim Burton, who co-created the show with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, has said he was drawn to the series because of Wednesday’s strength as a character. “When I read the script for season 1, it felt like it had been written for me. I loved her perspective on everything—from family to school to psychology.”

Already renewed for a third season

Netflix isn’t stopping here. Thanks to massive fan demand, Wednesday season 3 has already been confirmed. It’s clear that Charles Addams’ gothic family, first introduced in 1938 in The New Yorker, still resonates nearly a century later.

So mark your calendars: Wednesday Addams is back this August, sharper, darker, and more twisted than ever.
